What is Parkour and why is it the fastest growing fitness trend? Founded by French athlete, David Belle, and sensationalized by stunt men in films such as Casino Royale, Parkour is the wave of fitness future.
Defined: “Parkour is a method of training which allows us to (literally) overcome obstacles, both in the urban and natural environments. It’s a weapon in disguise. We train until the day we encounter a problem, we know that we are able to use it. It can be the art of flight, or the chase, helping someone escape a problem, or just something ordinary.
Parkour is first about the useful side, to teach people how to trust themselves, to learn to be careful. The philosophy is always to advance and never to stop. Like life, you are bound to encounter obstacles. So what do you do? Overcome them.” –David Belle
Free Running:
So many of you are already training with Parkour-esque techiques–landing and rolling, jumping and bounding, sprinting and hill sprinting, and the quadrupedal bear crawl and crab turnover. As we prepare for the upcoming Mud Factor obstacle course run, these movements will appear in your workouts. Vive le Parkour!
