Designing your optimum exercise program also requires extensive training in a variety of areas, and includes an assessment to create an exercise program specific to you.\u201d -Perry Nickelston, DC<\/h2>\n<h2>Okay, so you&#8217;ve just hired a personal trainer and you are thrilled with the attention, programming, knowledge, and expertise. Like most things in life, you get <em>out <\/em>of personal training what you put <em>in <\/em>to your sessions. Some clients are afraid to push themselves because they fear injury. Others have no idea what they&#8217;re capable of, and a few just go through the motions.<\/h2>\n<h2>This week we\u00a0challenge\u00a0all of you to ask yourself, &#8220;Could I go a little faster? Push a little harder? Lift a little heavier?&#8221; I promise you that the answer is: <em>Yes. You. Can. <\/em>If you know you are holding yourself back, ask why. Is it a fear of success? A fear of injury? A fear of looking silly? A fear of pain? Do you think, &#8220;I <em>hate <\/em>burpees. This hurts. This is so hard. I can&#8217;t do it. Remember that when we say, &#8220;<em>I can&#8217;t,<\/em>&#8221; it becomes a self-fulfilling\u00a0prophecy. When we say and think that <em>we can<\/em>, that also becomes a self-fullfilling prophecy. Catch that negative self-talk and turn those cynical thoughts into: &#8220;Before I could only do 10 burpees at a time&#8211;now I&#8217;m doing 20! Wow, these sit-ups are starting to feel really good&#8211;I bet I can do them faster. An athlete is simply a person\u00a0trained\u00a0or\u00a0gifted\u00a0in\u00a0exercises\u00a0or\u00a0contests\u00a0involving physical\u00a0agility,\u00a0stamina,\u00a0or\u00a0strength;\u00a0a\u00a0participant\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0sport,exercise,\u00a0or\u00a0game\u00a0requiring\u00a0physical\u00a0skill. Start carrying yourself like an athlete. Practice the self-talk of athletes.
