Jumping for good nutrition!

Weight loss and learning to live a healthy lifestyle requires serious palate re-training. American palates are so over saturated with sugar, salt, and creamy mayonnaise-y foods that we’re unable to taste the food itself. All of our clients who experience the Kitchen Raid and the Grocery Store Tour learn there are many ways to wean your palate off of dangerous salt-like chemicals like monosodium glutamate, sugar-like chemicals such as aspartame, and soybean oil-based mayonnaise. Teach your palate new flavor profiles such as tart, biter, tangy, spicy, garlic-y, fruity, cinnamon-y, basil-y, gingery, lemony, meaty, smoky etc. Embrace other seasonings in the form of salsa, wasabi, lemon juice, and fresh herbs.

Table salt is highly refined. Try sea salt instead.Salt: If you want to be totally shocked, read the amount of sodium in foods like Campbell’s soups, Rice a Roni, Chinese food, and pretty much anything packaged in a box or as a frozen meal.  Our sodium requirements differ based on growth stage, sweat loss, and conditions such as vomiting and diarrhea. Generally speaking, healthy adults require only 1,500 mg of salt per day. One teaspoon of table salt has 2,325 milligrams of sodium. The average adult takes in 3,400 mg of sodium per day.  We need sodium to maintain the right balance of body fluids, transmit nerve impulses, and influence contraction and relaxation of muscles but taking in too much sodium puts people at risk for high blood pressure, edema, and heart disease.

Sugar substitute stevia in its natural plant form

Sugar: Eating healthy doesn’t mean sacrificing sweetness. It means choosing naturally occurring sweeteners in the form of fructose (sugar in fruit), lactose (sugar in milk). When it comes to added sugar–sucrose, use honey, agave nectar, and stevia to sweeten beverages, oatmeal, and in baking. Read labels and ask yourself if the sugar inside is natural or in the form of high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, or dextrose. Sugar hides in everything from barbecue sauce to lunch meat to bread and pasta sauce. Read labels carefully and select items containing less than 5 grams of sugar unless it’s in the form of lactose or fructose. Sugar is addictive and too much of it leads to obesity, heart disease, tooth decay, and diabetes.
