BEFORE: 238 pounds in June 2011

On June 24, 2011, 55 years-young, 238 pound Robin Schaefer was vacationing in Hawaii reading this Patch.com article about Double Eagle Fitness:

Five days later she was back in Novato sitting in our Hamilton office letting Beqir pinch her with red skin-fold calipers. She let us measure her. She let us conduct the standard baseline fitness test which yielded ten kinda sorta push-ups and zero sit-ups.

Three days after her initial consultation she submitted a food journal for us to analyze. The next day I was in her kitchen filling up multiple moving boxes with Frank-N’-Foods for donation to Marin Food Bank. She wrote vigorous notes to keep up with the nutrition lesson and the calorie counting lesson and the you-must-weigh-yourself-everyday lesson.

And then it was time for the first work-out. “I have an irrational fear of having a heart attack,” Robin told us only two weeks ago. Fascinated, Beqir and I looked at each other both seeing the same fitness movie montage of Robin running, jumping, squatting, lunging, planking, and push-uping for four months without a hint of her fear.

Despite her fear Robin never missed a workout. Despite the natural wax and wane of human drive she kept her eyes on her prize. “Another trip to Hawaii,” she said dreaming of her eleven month-long goal. “Another trip to Hawaii where I’ll actually be able to hike waterfalls and go zip-lining. She is half way there and what we love about Robin is that she gets it. She doesn’t quit when it gets hard. She doesn’t beat herself up when water weight makes the scale fluctuate. She embraces her new lifestyle and never uses the dreaded D-word. She knows she will still use her food log once she reaches her goal weight and moves into the maintenance phase.

For those of you who watch the Biggest Loser you know that when the contestants dip below two hundred pounds, it’s known as One-der-land (the 100s). Welcome to One-der-land Robin. You have worked so hard to get here. We couldn’t be more proud. You are a trooper and you inspire us every day.
